The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County partnered with FB4K Madison (Free Bikes 4 Kids) to give away almost 400 bicycles to area youth! On an afternoon filled with fun and excitement, volunteers fitted children with helmets and sized them for a used bike in good repair. Collected from across the community the bicycles came in varieties ranging from single-speed junior bikes with training wheels, to full suspension mountain bikes and young adult road bikes, perfect for a ride to school. Every bike was duly registered and licensed with the Madison Police Department. Furthermore, with the encouragement of their parents and teachers each child who received a bike will be able to use them for safe and reliable transportation, community engagement, good physical exercise and most importantly, fun!
“Look at all these smiling faces!” said B&G Club CEO Michael Johnson. “One of our donors said it best, we’re giving these kids freedom.”
Sustainability is extremely relevant in our community. For us, sustainability is more than a cause, initiative, or policy, it’s people! We aim to create a space where people can dialogue about what sustainability means to them and what it looks like in everyday life. We believe we can shape tomorrow by sharing how sustainability is at work in communities today.
